Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/1.4 Distagon

Milvus 50/1.4 Flare

Flare control has been given special attention in the Milvus 50/1.4 Distagon, but there are situations in which strong high contrast lighting can generate some veiling effects.

Examples

Bright skylight

The sky was bright ( the light was blue mountain shade with some cloud and smoke cover—nasty enough to want to leave quickly). That, along with the bright silver paint of the vehicle makes for a challenge. Just below the fender at left, a veiling flared can be seen above the tire. See also the background just above the hood—it has a slightly foggy look to it. The lens hood was used, of course.

While this image has had considerable contrast control applied (shadows boosted, highlights pulled down), the flare can be seen without the boost as well. When shooting under challenging conditions, minimal flare is important to being able to tame contrasts. The 55/1.4 Otus likely would have handled this better.
