Zeiss Milvus 85mm f/1.4 Planar

Milvus 85/1.4 Flare, Extreme Backlighting

This page shows four cases of extreme backlighting in which the fabulous dynamic range of the Nikon D810 is pressed even beyond its limits—truly extreme contrast.

Four examples are shown with the sun and/or bright sunlit clouds along with a foreground that is nearly black—which is exactly what it ought to be.

Zeiss apparently spared little effort to make resistance to flare truly exceptional.

The use of f/13 reduces overall lens contrast; one can expect even blacker blacks at wider apertures. No significant differences were seen at wider apertures versus what is shown here.
