Embossed look
The most striking feature of the Zeiss ZF 85mm f/1.4 Planar is the embossed look seen at f/1.4 and f/2, which at f/2.8 diminishes (and is not seen at all with the Canon or Nikon lenses).
Field images taken with the Planar offer a certain “depth” which frustrates objective comparison, but seems to be a real effect nonetheless, a direct result (in part) of this embossed rendering of the 85 Planar.
