At close range and thus relatively high magnification, this is a deep 3D scene that even with stopping down will have depth of field limitations. It helps us see the rendering style from wide open and with stopping down, including chromatic errors and vignetting behavior at full aperture.

Slightly higher sharpening was used for f/11 and f/16; see Mitigating Micro Contrast Losses from Diffraction Blur in Making Sharp Images. The D810 shows diffraction losses clearly because its sensor lacks any anti-aliasing filter.
