The 700-foot-tall Eureka Dunes

These images explore Death Valley Eureka Dunes in infrared.

The road to Eureka Dunes is harsh washboard, even if approacing from the Death Valley Road / Big Pine end. Carry extra water (5 gallons minimum, just and case) and a real spare tire (not a blow-up toy). Don’t even think about going there without such precautions—no cell service, and it’s a 40 mile walk to get one.

Conclusions

Death Valley is a fascinating place any time of the year, with numerous creative possibilities. The pleasant temperatures of February are particularly appealing, and far less riskier compared with July when visiting remote areas.
