Just added to my Zeiss Guide is a new comparison of the Zeiss 35/1.4 Distagon to the Zeiss 35/2 Distagon and Canon 35mm f/1.4L. Also included are full resolution JPEGs at f/2.8 and f/8 for your own further study.

Of particular note is the excellent color correction of the 35/1.4 Distagon; it is largely free of lateral chromatic aberration.
