Reviewed: Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 for Leica M
Just published in my Guide to Leica is a review of the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1.
In my 9-pages of coverage, I cover:
- Overview.
- Build quality and ergonomics.
- Field curvature (two examples).
- Flare.
- Shooting at f/1.1 in bright daylight.
- A variety of high-res examples with commentary.
Note yet studied are the focus shift characteristics.
Want to get started with a Leica M9/M9P but can’t find Leica lenses to buy? The $1049 Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 is relatively inexpensive and a pleasure to shoot. No, it’s not at the level of a Noctilux or a Summilux, but at 1/10 the price of the Noctilux-M 50/0.95 and less than 1/3 the price of the Summilux, and available to buy today, it’s a very reasonable choice to start with. And since it is different, it’s not even really redundant with those two Leica 50mm lenses.
