Reader Comment: Camera Profiles

I saw your article about the RX100 raw files and processing them with
the LR4 update. I struggled with the Adobe DNG profile editor and my
ColorChecker chart trying to match the Sony RX100 DNG profiles to the
JPEGs-with no real results. However, in my searching a I found there
is a company that is providing translated DNG profiles, so that I can
use my Canon Standard DNG profile with this camera. The product site
is here:https://pskiss.com/shop/cross-camera-color-profiles/
I spent the $15 and bought the set for the RX100, and I have to say
that the 1Ds Mk3 Standard profile matches incredibly well with my 5DII
images.Hopefully someone who knows more about what they are doing will make a
DNG profile that recreates the Sony JPEG magic.
DIGLLOYD: Camera vendors are remiss in not providing profiles with their cameras— image quality is an end-to-end proposition so it’s baffling why a manufacturer would not make the insignificant additional effort and use it as a marketing advantage (the effort is tiny in context of designing and supporting a digital camera!)
One thing I am unsure about is how well a camera profile can work on different subjects and with different lighting, especially with features like DRO (dynamic range optimization).
