Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar MTF from f/2 - f/16
Zeiss has provided MTF charts from f2 - f16. See my previous discussion of the new ZF.2 / ZE 135mm f/2 APO-Sonnar T* for Nikon and Canon.
The 135mm f/2 APO-Sonnar is a very exciting lens which looks to match or exceed the performance of even the venerable 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar.
MTF
My commentary on the MTF charts as well as a discussion of how the 135/2 APO-Sonnar compares to the 100/2 Makro-Planar are in my Guide to Zeiss ZF.2 / ZE Lenses.
This is a world-class performance, the best performance of any lens in the Zeiss ZF.2 / ZE lens lineup. In short, the new 135mm f/2 APO-Sonnar is must have lens to show off the very best of a Nikon D800/D800E.
At about $2000, the 135/2 APO-Sonnar requires some thought, but compared to the about $1843 of the 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar, the price is suprisingly “low” considering its apochromatic design and ultra high performance.
Vignetting
No visible vignetting by f/4. Pleasing effect at f/2.
Distortion
Mild pincushion distortion common among lenses of this focal length.
