Voigtlander Color Skopar 28mm f/2.8 SL II for Nikon and Canon
Please see the Sept 10 notes on the Voigtlander Color Skopar 28mm f/2.8 SL II makes a line of SLR lenses for Nikon and Canon, reviewed in DAP.
Several readers have inquired as to whether I will be reviewing the Voigtlander 28/2.8 SL II, and the answer is yes, enough to answer questions about its overall performance and characteristics in context of other lenses.
With only 7 elements, the Voigtlander 28/2.8 is like to have some limitations, but an f/2.8 aperture can simplify optical design and construction, and so perhaps it might perform well, at least by f/5.6 - f/8. My guess is that it will show some clear limits against the Zeiss/Nikon alternatives. We shall see.
I’ll be comparing the Voigtlander 28/2.8 SL II as follows:
- Against the Nikon 28mm f/1.8G and Nikon 28/2 AI-S, to go into DAP.
- Against the Zeiss 28/2 Distagon, to go into Guide to Zeiss.
- vs Canon 28/2.8 IS— regrettably this loaner lens went back, but I'll probably obtain one (rent one) at a future time and add that comparison later.
The main point (as I see it) is that it is a tiny lens, and thus even if it shows itself to not perform as well as its bulkier competitors, size and weight have their place in some circumstances as priorities.
Stephen Gandy over at CameraQuest.com has the 28/2.8 available, which is where I got mine.
