Sigma DN 19mm and DN 30mm f/2.8 Lenses for Micro Four Thirds or Sony NEX
I hadn’t really noted until recently that Sigma offers two useful lenses for Micro Four Thirds (Olympus E-M5 and its siblings, Panasonic various cameras) and for Sony E mount (NEX).
The two lenses are apparently designed to cover an APS-C sensor (Sony E mount), and thus on Micro Four Thirds they should be hitting the central “sweet spot”. Perhaps— to be seen.
- Both lenses are nicely small and very lightweight.
- Both lenses take 46mm filters.
- Both lenses have manual focus rings more generous than many other Micro Four thirds lenses.
I’ll be adding coverage of both lenses in Guide to Mirrorless.
Lens cases
Both lenses are shipped with a zippered case, nicely padded and of pleasing quality— I was favorably impressed with this approach, which makes so much more sense in terms of both utility to the customer and in avoiding wasteful packaging.
Kudos to Sigma— Olympus and Panasonic do scarcely more than wrap most of their lenses in slightly thick plastic.
Sigma 19mm f/2.8
Equivalent to a ~38mm f/2.8 on full frame.
If the optics are the same as the 19mm f/2.8 found on the Sigma DP1 Merrill, then we can expect high performance (but not yet tested, and MFT pixel pitch is much smaller, so this might or might not pan out).
The 19/2.8 is supplied with a lens shade, very nice given the omission of such things with many Olympus lenses.

Sigma 30mm f/2.8
Equivalent to a ~60mm f/2.8 on full frame.
There is no lens shade supplied, and it apparently has no provision for one as there are no mounting provisions for a lens shade on the lens itself. Since the front element is quite close to the front of the lens, a filter for protection from debris or rain might be a good idea.
