I just updated my Sigma DP1/DP2/DP3 Merrill cameras with the latest firmware.
- Sigma DP1 Merrill firmware update v1.03.
- Sigma DP2 Merrill firmware update v1.04.
- Sigma DP3 Merrill firmware update v1.01.
The DP1M and DP2M firmware version both showed as “****” after the first try, so I performed the update a second time and then all was well, with the proper firmware version listed.
I saw this bug before the firmware update as well, which means it is not fixed: format the card and it blinks the red light forever (never finishes formatting). Solution: pull the battery, try again and it formats in two seconds or so.
One cannot set up the flash settings without attaching the flash. This is a bit annoying if one wishes to sync-up the flash settings on all three cameras.
Could there be a firmware change for image quality? A file compatibility change with a firmware update is rather odd. Sigma has not yet replied to my inquiry as to whether the DP3 Merrill image quality is “better”.
Once you update the firmware of DP1 Merrill to Ver. 1.03, it is necessary to install Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 to develop the RAW images. The previous versions (Sigma Photo Pro 5.4.1 or earlier) cannot process it properly.
