Leica M Typ 240 / M240 and Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH: Testing Begins

Out of the blue, a reader wrote me offering to send me his new Leica M Typ 240, Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH and Leica M Monochrom. Wow! I don’t generally get such a generous offer. Those first two are exceptionally hard to find (total non-success so far).

The testing begins. First, I want to establish the relative performance of the M9P (18MP CCD) against the Leica M Typ 240 (“M240”, 24MP CMOS sensor and possibly against the Leica M Monochrom as well.

I also want to determine whether wide angle lenses perform better on the M240 versus the M9, particularly the 21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M.

And then the “50mm shootout” to follow, once I’m clear on using the new M240 and its performance behavior.
