Close Range Performance with Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH

Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH

To properly compare the Leica M240 to the Leica M9P, I needed to understand the performance of the Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH; critical comparisons demand an understanding of the optic involved in order to avoid errors of various kinds, most notably focus shift.

I didn’t expect any focus shift or field curvature, but I don’t like to assume.

Accordingly, I first present a meticulously-shot (2mm increments) study of 50/2 APO ASPH sharpness and focus shift, along with a study of secondary longitudinal chromatic aberration with the 50/2 APO ASPH. Shot on the Leica M240.
