See Guide to Leica for more on real Leicas: Leica M Typ 240 and Leica M9 and lenses.
See my previous guess at what the Mini M would be. I’m a bad guesser. Maybe BMW can talk to Leica about Minis? Anyway, the Leica Big M (BM) is yet to come*.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that the rumor is true: the new Leica Mini M is to be a 16-megapixel APS-C camera that easily fits into a 1000cc cargo pants pocket once the optional EVF is removed, with a fixed fast 28-70mm (equiv) f/3.5-6.4 zoom**. All while noting that the rumor could be a Photoshop gag. We’ll know soon enough (June 11), and probably before.
OMG, it has a BIG red dot on it (look at that box). Shooting a portrait at 70mm (equiv) I’ll have no worries about focus error or depth of field or bokeh since f/6.4 on APS-C hides just about anything. And for those low light situations, I can always open up to f/3.5 and shoot wide and spray and pray. And with those 16 million pixels, I can always crop down to 15 million pixels. Finally Leica sniffs it to the back of the pack and runs with the little dogs like the Nikon Coolpix A and NEX-6, at only 2.5X - 4X the price.
Well, you can’t make this stuff up, or you’d bust a gut laughing and get no work done. My stomach hurts.
Seriously, maybe the rumor is all wrong and the Mini M has some hidden virtues that escape me, like being half the price of a Hasselblad Lunartic. Or maybe the zoom lens is optically perfect wide open across the range. Interchangeable lenses and the zoom is the kit lens, with others to follow? Dunno.
Most likely? I’d expect an f/2.8 - 4.0 lens, which would be of a size in line with the Fujifilm X 18-55mm f/2.8 - 4. It just doesn’t make sense to have f/6.4 at the long end.

** An unconfirmed rumor has it that in keeping with Leica S & M, all Leica zooms will be designated for clarity as “Leica Z WTypF” and all prime lenses “Leica P WTypF”.
