Yosemite Rim Fire: Tioga Pass Resort Closes Early (Sept 15)

I received this disappointing but understandable (due to the rim fire) email today from Tioga Pass Resort, which is my favorite non-camping place to stay in/near Yosemite National Park:

Dear TPR Guests

Due to the effects of the Yosemite fire and continuing closure of HWY 120 we regret to inform you that we will not be able to honor your upcoming reservation. Due to the circumstances beyond our control we will be forced to close at the end of the business day on Sunday 9/15. Since the fire started our local economy has been greatly impacted, in an effort to adjust we have made several changes with regards to our hours of operation along with employee cut backs in hope that the National Park Service would open the road in a timely matter. Unfortunately this has not happened thus forcing us to cut our season short.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope to be able to accommodate your group in the 2014 season. Please check our website TiogaPassResort.com for the latest news as well as to when we will be accepting reservations for the 2014 season.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely

-TPR

But I also received this automated response when I replied:

Thank you for contacting TPR. We currently have a limited amount of vacancies for September. Please check our website, Tiogapassresort.com or our facebook page www.Facebook/Tiogapassresort for any cancellations, upcoming vacancies, questions, as well as the latest fire and road conditions. Today (9/02) we are currently seeing zero smoke from the "Rim" fire and are in no way threatened by the blaze. Currently it is sunny, beautiful and clear.
