Pixel Level Detail
Get Sigma DP Merrill at B&H Photo.
This actual pixels crop at f/4 isn’t scaled down or fixed up; it’s a straight crop. You get about 15 megapixels that can print 2 meters wide and look darn good. Because the detail extends right down to each pixel*—no demosaicing and no fractional color resolution and no resolution artifacts as with a Bayer matrix sensor (1/2 green, 1/4 blue, 1/4 red).
For cameras costing about $700, prints can be made that knock your socks off in terms of detail that will scale to large print sizes. But the Sigma DP Merrills are not for everyone, so read the reviews.
* Viewed on a retina display, this crop will be pixel doubled (blurred), see the image at right for a proper sense of the detail at actual pixels on a 2:1 pixel-doubled retina device.
