Sony RX1R II: Noise from ISO 100 - ISO 102K (Pescadero Creek, Downstream)
Get Sony RX1R II at B&H Photo. Strongly recommended: optional Sony LHP-1 lens hood to protect the front of the lens (and as a secondary consideration, stray light) as well as at least three Sony NP-BX1 batteries.
This study of noise with an ideal exposure under real world field conditions includes the following:
- 12-megapixel and 24-megapixel images from ISO 100 to ISO 102400; these provide excellent context for thinking about the Sony A7S II and Sony A72 with their 12 and 24 megapixel sensor.
- Two large crops from ISO 100 to ISO 102400.
- All of the above also show chroma noise reduction variants starting at ISO 1600, as a sort of practical evaluation of how to deal with chroma noise.

An interesting incidental finding about ISO 100 vs ISO 200 is seen (a negative impact on image sharpness at ISO 100), also confirmed in another entirely different series. Noise reduction is presumably involved, even if long exposure noise reduction is disabled.
