Pentax K1 Super Resolution Mode has Color Problems, Definitely an Adobe Camera Raw BUG — 3rd Example With 'Push'
See my Pentax K1 wish list at B&H Photo.
UPDATE: shooting in PEF format instead of DNG banishes the blue veiling haze—even with Adobe Camera Raw.
What I heard from Adobe on the blue haze issue is this:
Known issue. It is fixed in the next ACR update. High ISO DNGs shots with super resolution.
Adobe contacted me late Friday, and I have now sent three pairs of DNG files to Adobe, all at ISO 100 (each pair consisting of a StdRes and SuperRes image).
RawDigger info confirms that there is no meaningful difference in the raw data. I have now confirmed this with a 3rd comparison. Adobe Camera Raw 9.5.1 (595) cannot process Pentax K1 SuperRes files properly.
Discussion and analysis includes the images, ACR processing settings, RawDigger histograms.
Some readers reported that they could not see the blue cast in the dolls example or in the Macbeth color checker example. That could be—a poor quality display or eyes without good color discrimination (either/or). Other readers have no difficulty seeing the issue.
So presumably the effects are rather obvious below in this split image, which uses a push and shadow boost.
