This is a really helpful feature which I am really glad to see, particularly useful for focusing on the iris of the eye (what a pity that Eye AF is not a feature).
Pinpoint AF* Uses a focus area half the size of single-point AF to attain precise focus on a very small area of the subject — particularly useful for capturing subjects such as the pistil of a flower, or an intricately designed accessory. * Available when AF-S is selected for still images. Contrast-detect AF is activated when this mode is set.
