Both impress—the Pentax K-1 II with superb image quality and the Pentax HD FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW for excellence at f/1.4—I suspect that it might be the best Pentax full frame lens available. No, it is not a Zeiss Otus, but it is way better than any Canon or Nikon 50/1.4 and looks to be in the same league as Sigma DG HSM Art lenses.
My impression is that in terms of pixels and image quality, this is the best value out there. For a total of about $2900 (camera + lens), the Pentax K-1 II and 50/1.4 deliver outstanding image quality, and from what I see in pixel quality as per RawDigger, the K-1 II offers ultra-clean medium format quality in the dark tones, pixel shift or otherwise. With pixel shift when it can be used (much more often than Sony pixel shift it appears), the detail and texture are incredibly good. Now if only it were 45 megapixels and mirrorless.
