I was seeking subject matter to demonstrate the benefits of HighRes mode (or lack thereof). But such an evaluation first requires consistently high optical performance, so I inspect results very carefully, lest erroneous conclusions be reached. This scene raises a caveat the surely calls into question the naive analysis of HighRes mode.
This page looks at performance of the Panasonic 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS at 71mm on an extremely demanding planar (flat) target at medium distance. This particular subject lays bare all lens weaknesses, but particularly field curvature, focus shift and micro contrast across the frame. It turns out that localized focus shift rears its head in this scene.
