Reader Comment: Focusing the Panasonic S1R Manually

Reader Brian N writes:

I could not manual focus my Leica M 50mm /1.4 black chrome lens on my Panasonic S1R at f/1.4 and get a focussed picture. I had just received the camera a few days ago.

However, after studying (and I do mean studying) the manual I figured out how to accurately manual focus without the work around you described under L-mount.

The method is: Lever is in MF mode. Press the button to the left of the AF ON button twice and you get magnified mode. The chosen focus spot can then be adjusted using the rear wheel up to 6x magnification. If you want to move the magnification area around you use the joystick. The great thing is that when you take your next picture your just press the button again twice and it stays at whatever magnification you previously used. I am finding this perfect to use and get 100% focus accuracy now at 6x. I have not tried other magnifications yet but wanted to let you know about it right away.

I love the camera so far and have used it with the Panasonic Lumix S Pro 50mm f/1.4 and love its rendering.

I cannot wait to try out the Multi-Shot High-Res Mode and really appreciate your insights that you have posted. People do not realize the value of these nuggets of gold that you provide make your subscription actually valuable. I cannot believe the nonsense posted on most websites but then they are free and people get what they pay for….

DIGLLOYD: (this was sent a month or so ago). That’s correct, it is the rear wheel for magnification that is the critical point and that allows magnifying more than I thought possible initially.
