But for most of us, either of these two laptops below represent a fantastic value. Ditto for just about anyone—I wish these deals had been available when I bought for my college-bound daughter.
At $2099 ($700 off, click thru to see), the 2019 MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz 8 core / 16GB / 512GB is an outrageously powerful computer. Its limitations are 16GB memory (the max until 18 months ago!) and 512GB SSD. But you can add 2TB external storage later if needed.
At $2649, the MacBook Pro 2.9 GHz 6-core / 32GB / 2TB has more storage and memory with a slightly less powerful 6-core CPU but that will hardly matter.
James K asks “Is the Mac Book Pro at $2649 2.9GHz 6-core 32GB/2TB a good way to go? If so I will buy one through your site”. Yes, that is actually the machine I would prefer for the 32GB of memory and 2TB SSD because those things would be more limiting for my use. The 8-core model will be a little faster and with the (allegedly) better keyboard, but I would value the memory and SSD capacity more.
Update: the 2019 MacBook Pro Intel Core i9 8-core / 16GB / 512GB has a slightly improved keyboard over the 2018. Both were prone to failures; be sure to buy AppleCare. The 2020 16" model has a new kind of keyboard that is likely to hold up much better.
