Sony A1 Bird Eye AF: Great Blue Heron and Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS
Literally minutes after I arrived home with the Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS on loan from a generous friend, this Great Blue Heron pops into my yard. Since s/he rarely stays more than 10 minutes, I was in a hurry to grab some shots, which I did handheld (braced) but regrettably the optical image stabilization was disabled on the lens... but I still got some sharp shots. Regrettably, I had some blur problems even at 1/2000 by the time I got the 1.4X and 2X teleconverters in place (resting on a pillow and with IS switched on).
The Sony A1 did an amazing job on the eye in all the shots, which is tack sharp here even as the body of the bird is out of focus, so shallow is the depth of field at f/4. I just don’t see how any wildlife photographer can go without the Sony 1 (if shooting Sony).
