My trip with the Voigtlander FE 35mm f/2 APO-Lanthar in May/June 2021 was rather frustrating because I had trouble getting optimal sharpness on landscapes. The reasons became clear with further study. Anyone looking to achieve optimal sharpness for landscape scenes with the Voigtlander 35/2 APO-Lanthar should study this series carefully.
Comparing lenses is hard enough when the lenses are different. But comparing a lens to itself is no simple task either; a very small deviation in focus can be quite revealing as to just how fraught with peril comparing two lenses can be when either or both have focus shift and field curvature behaviors.
This aperture series from f/2 through f/8 looks at sharpness across the field and near to far with the Voigtlander 35mm f/2 APO-Lanthar, as well as its central rearward focus shift.
