Zooms always have compromises. For the picky landscape photographer, this one is no exception. But with appropriate understanding of the lens behavior, outstanding results can be obtained.
Here seen from the Alabama Hills, 14504' ~= 4421m summit of Mt Whitney is seen near center, the highest peak in the lower 48 states. Not far away in the Inyo Mountains to the north and east is White Mountain Peak at 14252' ~= 4344m, a far easier climb (and one of the few that can be legally mountain-biked). There are higher higher peaks in Canada/Alaska, as well as the 14K+ foot volcanic peaks in the Pacific Northwest, such as 14179' ~=4322m Mt Shasta and snow-clad 14417' ~= 4394m Mt Ranier. I’ve climbed Shasta and a dozen or so “fourteeners” in Colorado but I am no mountaineer.
