As I started using the Hasselblad X2D, I was frustrated with results that clearly were less than ideal. It became increasingly clear over time that both the Hasselblad XCD 55mm f/2.5 V and especially the Hasselblad XCD 38mm f/2.5 V had been compromised by very unwise optical design choices. The photographer will not obtain optimal results without special efforts.
The Hasselblad XCD 55mm f/2.5 V suffers from a strong forward focus shift (a shift in focus at full aperture to closer to the camera when stopped down). Failure to account for it means inferior results, even at f/8.
This aperture series shows what you must do for optimal performance when stopping down. The camera won’t do it for you, and the camera has no aid for doing so, but this page explains what to do for strikingly superior results. Perhaps it is worth the price of admission just to learn how to turn a losing proposition into a world-class result.
