Sony A7R V: Competitive Using Pixel Shift + Motion Correction vs Fujifilm GFX100S?

See yesterday’s discussion on the file format changes and ARW issues that are holding me up on evaluating the Sony A7R V.

However, today I went out and shot a number of comparisons in 4-shot pixel shift mode on the Sony A7R V including running water. Goal being to see if the A7R V pixel shift might outperform or at least be competitive with the Fujifilm GFX100S for capture detail, as I’ve already shown is a serious question, using the Sony A1, Leica SL2, Nikon D850, Leica M11.

Consider the bitingly sharp edge-to-edge detail possible with lenses like the Voigtlander FE 35mm f/2 APO, Voigtlander FE 50mm f/2 APO, Voigtlander FE 65mm f/2 APO, Sony FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM and certain other lenses. Set those against various Fujifilm lenses which struggle to make fully sharp images over the larger GFX100S sensor.

Then add pixel shift at 60 megapixels with Sony’s motion correction, which expands the shooting envelope vs static scenes (how much and how well I don’t yet know). And that the GFX100S suffers more from diffraction because it needs 2/3 stop more for the same depth of field, eg f/10 vs f/8 on Sony.

Should be interesting!
