Sony Imaging Edge: Incompatible with macOS Mojave
re: Sony pixel shift
Sony Imaging Edge is ncompatible with macOS Mojave. No big deal, right?
Well, macOS Mojave is what I run on my 2019 iMac 5K, the robust and proven workhorse I use for travel in my Sprinter van. There is no Apple upgrade from Mojave; only lasting workflow disruption with newer and less stable OS versions, so I am loathe to “upgrade” and in the process cost myself $800 in software upgrades (accounting software) that I have zero need for.
And last time I tried to ‘“upgrade” to macOS Monterey back in October, the Apple installer bricked my machine, rendering it unbootable. I was saved from disaster, 1000 miles from home, only by booting off an external drive and cloning back onto the internal. I have no appetite for that exercise again, nor the instability and security problems and degraded user interface that come with macOS Monterey.
And yet, the only way to generate ARQ files from Sony pixel shift is to use Sony Imaging Edge Viewer software, which I cannot install on Mojave. I’m not sure what I will do yet—it’s a nightmare scenario because I lose no matter what I choose to do, or not do.
Most 3rd party software vendors respect their customers enough to maintain compatibility across OS versions for a reasonable time. It’s not like a 2019 is particularly old. Shame on you Sony for making life difficult—you suck—none of my other 3rd party software has such requirements.
