The rain finally ceased and I went to re-shoot the scene on which I had problems before.
I’ve not only reproduced the key problem with Sony focus bracketing, one that guarantees damaged results (at least in some cases), but I’ve found another troublesome and obvious bug.

Unbelievably sloppy work. Never before have I seen such a poorly tested seriously broken feature from Sony. Add these failures to the idiotic denial of bracketing with pixel shift and you have an amateurish effort. What a way to tarnish an otherwise oustanding camera.
BTW, the Sony Viewer.app is a piece of crap too: it chews up nearly two CPU cores constantly when idle. Do not leave it running!
