'Game Over' for the Already Marginal Medium Format Advantage?

Jason W writes regard the Adobe Camera RAW AI Denoise feature:

So, this is the biggest leap in photography technology in years, no?

Next step would be getting it streamlined and fast enough to replace the regular NR sliders? I don't know it should be in-camera. I think RAW files should still be un-modified with RAW data.

I think there's also some low ISO relevant questions here. Like, does the Fujifilm GFX100S now actually possess any SNR advantage over the Sony A7R V? Can you make the GFX encroach on the IQ150 quality? I'm discounting lenses, but this seems like a win for smaller chips.

In practice for deep focus where spatial res is king, I'd agree you're probably right, game over. I think the differences will come down to color profiles, lens optical characteristics, which outside of shallow DoF / bokeh considerations, are unlikely to be particularly significant. I'd be curious to see ISO 100 tests though between the different cameras.

DIGLLOYD:

The Fujifilm GFX100S has no significant (if any) total resolution advantage over the Sony A7R V. But it does have a 2/3 larger sensor, for lower noise and higher quality, in theory. Actually it’s only 1.48X difference in area if a 3:2 aspect ratio is stipulated.

With Adobe Camera Raw using AI Denoise, a difference in pixel quality stemming from 1.5X more light-gathering capability is all but meaningless. Plus, AI Denoise always incorporates Enhance Details too.

To be sure, I’ll have to see how AI Denoise does at base ISO in real-world situations.

And I want to see that using AI Denoise by virtual of using Enhance Details does not lead to ugly artifacting eg crosshatching pattern noise—see update here—apparently it is fixed.

My hunch is that it's game over for the two key medium format claims of “better”: resolution and overall pixel quality stemming from noise.zz
