Got One: Deeply Discounted Apple MacBook Pro M1 Max + Monterey vs Ventura
UPDATE: the MacBook Pro I ordered arrived, with an unexpected plus: it uses macOS Monterey. I loathe macOS Ventura and its buggy brokenness, but the 2022 MacBook Pro M2 Max requires Ventura, a real off-putting thing.

Perfect for professional photographer/videographer, but consider 8TB SSD instead of 4TB.

It was the exact set of specs I think my work needs and my 2018 MBP, while still running OK only has 2 TB of storage and that was proving problematic when I have more than one multi-day job to work on. I think B&H bumped the Apple care + to 299, but that still was a savings and I am just not sure that buying an M2 16” with similar specs is really going to run the software I need faster to justify spending more than 5k on a computer. Have you found a car charger to power this new computer?
WIND: the price has stayed the same but AppleCare (essential!) has fluctuated from $399 to $199 and it’s $299 for Silver but $199 for Space Gray. MBP case finish does not matter to me so I saved the $100 with Space Gray.
BTW, if this were going to be my one and only computer, I’d spring for the 8TB internal SSD; no faster SSD is possible with it as Thunderbolt maxes-out at less than half the speed of the internal SSD. I also recommend two (2) external 4TB SSDs to backup the internal SSD (one backup is not a smart move). With an 8TB internal SSD, that's less convenient for backup, but there are options and more are coming this year.
Charging: I’ve been using the BatPower charger for 5 years (older 2017 models) and they have worked flawlessly. I plugged in the new MBP and it started charging as it ought. The BatPower CPD2 High Power Delivery 120W @AMAZON looks good. You’ll also likely want some of the accessories below.
M1 Max vs M2 Max
I recently reviewed the Apple MacBook Pro M2 Max. Terrific machine. Obviously I would prefer 96GB of memory and a slightly faster processor, but...
The value proposition with the Apple MacBook Pro M1 Max at $1100/$1200/$1900 off is substantial. It’s the perfect configuration for just about everyone, including me (96GB vs 64GB aside). It ticks all the boxes—superb CPU speed, 4TB internal SSD, 32-core GPU.

Bought one for myself
I hemmed and hawed (money is tight), but when B&H Photos sweetened the deal today with $200 AppleCare (down to $200 from $400) for a total of $1400 savings, I used the B&H Payboo card to save another $342 on sales tax for total savings of $1742.
