Adobe Camera Raw: Nikon Z8 Lens Profile Behavior Varies with Camera Settings
re: Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z7 II and Nikon Z7
re: Nikon Continues to Make Misleading Claims about Optical Distortion In Its Lenses
Nikon Z8 is here, along with the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S.
Adobe Camera Raw is even flakier than I had discussed: with the Nikon Z8 and the 14-24/2.8 S, optical distortion can be corrected (or not) as one wishes. That’s good.
But there are two weird behaviors unlike any other brand ...
Lens Profile

plus long list of inappropriate lenses
The menu in ACR lists only one (1) NIKKOR Z lens, the one that matches the EXIF. Along with a long of other irrelevant lenses eg AF-S lenses, Nikon 1 lenses, etc.
This makes no sense—you can use a profile from an entirely different camera system and these are all listed (why?), but the only lens listed for Nikon mirrorless is the single matching lens for the Nikon mirrorless system.
Vignetting correction
Whether or not vignetting can be corrected during raw conversion on the computer in ACR depends on the camera setting at time of capture.
Vignette Control = OFF <=== ACR disables vignetting correction
Vignette Control = Normal <=== ACR enables vignetting correction
