Avoid Stepped Manual Focusing (Olympus E-M5, Dolls)

The Olympus 17mm f/1.8 offers a manual focus mode when the focusing ring is pulled back, exposing the distance scale as shown below, but there is a fundamental defect in using the “pull back” mode: the focus changes to a coarse “stepped mode”, with steps too huge to be useful.

The 17/1.8 can also be focused manually without pulling the ring back in a stepless (continuous) mode. That is the better approach as will be shown.
