Flare Control (EM1)
Control of veiling flare is critical to being able to control contrast in scenes with wide dynamic range; a lens that throws a haze into shadow areas dilutes color and detail everywhere, but the shadows are particularly damaged.
These examples shot to ascertain the veiling flare performance.
Just before sunrise
A very bright sky occupying 40% of the frame along with deep shadow areas is a challenge for any lens in maintaining the contrast.
Here, RawDigger shows that the full dynamic range of the sensor was utilized (12 bits), hence the question is whether the lens delivers by keeping blacks black in the face of the highlights being fully exposed (without being blown out). The RawDigger data show that some areas remains underexposed (near black) proving that veiling flare is kept to very low levels with this scene.
