Fujifilm Finepix X100

Conclusions

Image quality is terrific, in good part because of a top-grade lens.

Size and weight are very appealing, because a camera not taken won’t take a picture.

Focus speed is marginally acceptable, and a real downer for portraiture.

But as a whole, the X100 is a great camera that doesn’t feel like a Nintendo toy as most point-and-shoots do these days.

I ordered an X100 for myself, perhaps the most telling endorsement, because after using the X100 for several weeks, I am persuaded that it fills a critical hole in my rather extensive collection of cameras and lenses: it is the first and only camera I’ve used whose image quality cannot be reproached in any reasonable way, and I can stow it in a jacket pocket or cycling jersey pocket or a daypack. I can hand it to a stranger or The Wife and get a good picture too.
