Field Use

I am an active shooter— meaning I might stuff a small camera into a jacket pocket while hiking, or into a cycling jersey pocket while biking, etc.

I want a small no-fuss camera with a top-notch sensor, simple controls, the ability to protect the lens (eg. a hood and filter), quick on-off, no protruding camera warts to interfere with fast stow/unstow, etc.

My reference camera for such outings is the Fuji X100. On the X100, I mount a filter and a lens hood, which means that no lens cap is needed, since the lens is protected. The filter can be a polarizer or a UV filter as needed, and if it gets dirty (mud, water, whatever), I can clean it easily, or in a pinch, remove the filter or change to a polarizer from a UV or vice versa. And if the filter is damaged, well, it’s a filter.
