Design and Usability

The Nikon Coolpix A has commendable qualities, but also has significant usability issues, and does not show any particular design innovation, unless one considers migrating DSLR button layout to a compact something new.

The rear of the camera is shown here with all its controls except the one button on the front and the slider switch and ports on the left. At a glance, observe that the camera offers a cluttered design; it neither looks nor feels elegant; it has no raw simplicity. Such a camera must look intimidating to a beginner as it is every bit as complex as a DSLR. In short, this *is* a Nikon DX DSLR in a compact body. Not a bad thing necessarily, but innovation might have been welcome.
