Olympus OM-D E-M5

Effectiveness of Image Stabilization

While waiting for dinner one evening at Tioga Pass Resort (nice little place just outside Yosemite east entrance), I decided to test the image stabilization capabilities of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the Zuiko 12mm f/2.

With the E-M5, image stabilization is stated to be 5-axis, something new and wonderful it seems, and it’s in the camera body, so it works with any lens.

The prize-winning images below* are persuasive to me in showing the Olympus image stabilization system to be exceptionally good at making sharp images to shutter speeds as low as 1/13 second.

I did not “cherry pick” these images— virtually every image I shot at the 1/15 - 1/30 second range was sharp. Dropping to 1/13 is around the cutoff point at which things become hit or miss.
