4K: Data Rates/ Data Storage
The data rate for 4K (3840-wide) video at 30 fps is around 10 megabytes per second (80 megabits / sec). Other 4K recording options are very similar; a little more, a little less. A conservative figure for planning purposes might be 11 MB/sec, just to pad the estimate a bit and not run out of space.
Approximate storage for recording/archiving
It’s wise to budget for at least 20% more storage than you think you might need.
It is also wise to use a tool like diglloydTools DiskTester to prove out camera cards to be used for video work (bad bocks and such), such as with the fill-volume command, which provides a write/read-verify pass along with graphable output to show card performance (consistent or not). Use of a fast USB3 card reader is essential (far too slow with USB2).
