Sigma DP-2 Merrill

Aperture Series DP2 Merrill (Dolls)

This page shows the performance of lens plus camera at fairly close range across the f/2.8 - f/16— sharpness, effects of diffraction, general image quality. Focus shift is also assessed.

Note that results at distance might be at some variance with the results at close range.

Test scene

Same comments as for the color gamut and reds and blues as with the DP1 Merrill on this same test scene.

Focusing— the DP2 Merrill autofocus was unable to cope with this scene; autofocus kept focusing behind Miss Checkerboard (the sensor apparently covers too large a focus area). Switching to manual focus, it turns out that the stepper motor focusing is good only to ~2cm or so of accuracy. UPDATE: at the time I shot this, I was unaware of spot focus, which just nails things in general.
