Sigma Photo Pro 5: Correcting Lateral Chromatic Aberration

The Sigma DP1 Merrill lens has significant lateral chromatic aberration which appears on high contrast edges (really everywhere). This degrades color purity and detail.

Lateral chromatic aberration should not appear in the center in a properly assembled lens, and it should appear symmetrically about the center when present.

This example show two key points:

  1. The lens on the Sigma DP1 Merrill used for this review is out of alignment physically, in a way that produces lateral chromatic aberration (LCA) primarily on one side of the image.
  2. The Sigma Photo Pro software in correcting lateral chromatic aberration (LCA) on one side of the image introduces LCA on the other side of the image, which had been all but free of it.
