Focus Magnifier

When working with manual focus lenses or autofocus lenses in manual mode, the focus magnifier is essential to achieving precise focus. It is especially critical on 36 megapixels.

The Focus Magnifier is by nature a control for interactive use while shooting, but the Sony design groups it with boolean settings, as shown below. It makes the Sony cameras feel like a consumer gadgets instead of a camera—the right solution would have been to dedicate a large button (operable with gloves) to this key functionality, as found on the better DSLRs (Live View mode button).

Fortunately, a button can be programmed to enter magnified Live View mode, see the Programming the Buttons page.
