Programming the Buttons

In terms of getting to the menu commands I need for shooting, the menu commands are scattered with no way to group the desired frequently used ones together, which is not only confusing but a waste a time which means a lost shot in some situations. Thus, programming the buttons on the A7R / A7 to one’s own needs is critical for efficient use of the A7R.

In Sony parlance, buttons are “keys”, hence Custom Key Settings.

Is it a key or a button? Sony menus containing buttons are called Key settings. It adds a subtle confusion, especially when trying to find buttons in a higher level menu whose titled with Keys.

Custom function buttons and others

Sony defaults the control wheel to ISO, and it is easy to change ISO by accident. The Control Wheel = Not Set is disabled as shown here, because I found being on some semi-random ISO is a real problem when shooting. It is especially problematic if even a light glove is used. Perhaps there ought to be optional auditory feedback when the ISO is changed as well; it is a critical seting.
