Bokeh Aperture Series: Backlit Trees

This series shows bokeh for strongly out of focus bright areas in the frame from f/2 through f/16.

Vignetting is very low, because the lens is focused a few feet away—larger image circle.

Wide open, the bokeh is that of the usual cat’s eye effect. Going to f/2.8, the out of focus (OOF) highlights in the outer zones become nearly circular, and are circular over most of the frame.

The shape of the OOF highlights shows the 10-bladed aperture shape. This is not ideal versus a truly round aperture but it’s not unpleasant.
