Sony A7R III
Zeiss Loxia 25mm f/2.4 Distagon

Examples: Night Shots

This page shows performance at night and dusk.

I was pleased to find that infinity focus was spot-on, as confirmed in fully magnified Live View. Also, the Loxia 25/2.4 is a joy to focus compared to many other 3rd-party lenses I shot in the past few months on Sony.

As for the Sony A7R III, its hot pixel noise is atrocious (and starts right at ISO 100). I’ll take the Nikon D850 any day (night) for night shooting. As well, it is a mind-boggling engineering goof to not build in a Time mode (as with the D850), thus limiting the maximum shutter speed to 30 seconds (I forgot the overwrought cheap plastic Sony remote).

Train Tracks to Trona, Blue Dusk

I had no trouble focusing the Loxia 25/2.4 even under these conditions: with very high micro contrast wide open, it is much easier than most lenses.
