Sony A7R
Zeiss Loxia 50mm f/2 Planar

Aperture Series: Pine Creek Sunlit Morning (Sony A7R)

Shot on the 36-megapixel Sony A7R.

This scene is at infinity focus, which is a very demanding situation for every lens. For the Zeiss Loxia 50/2 Planar and most 50mm designs, it is a tough challenge because nearly all f/1.4 and f/2 50mm designs have a significant forward field curvature undulation in the mid zones, which results in soft mid zones in the distance, the sharpness being thrust to closer distance (see f/4 in the MTF chart and note the pronounced dip at 15mm offset). This effect is clearly visible for the first several apertures.
