Shootout: Sony NEX-7 vs Nikon D7100 (Blue Doll, Pellegrino)

Released in late 2011, the Sony NEX-7 utilizes a very capable APS-C 24-megapixel sensor, reportedly with a weak anti-aliasing filter (optical low pass filter).

About 16 months later in the spring of 2013, the Nikon D7100 arrived and according to Nikon, it has no anti-aliasing which in theory ought to provide top image quality. And perhaps its sensor is a later design.

Given that both sensor are APS-C, how do they compare using the same lens, the Zeiss 50mm f/2 Makro-Planar, which offers exceptionally high performance over the APS-C area of the frame.

Shooting details

The nature of this comparison demanded a very high performing lens: the Zeiss 50mm f/2 Makro-Planar, which offers exceptional MTF across the APS-C sensor. It has a very mild and barely detectable focus shift, but this is the same for both cameras.
