Flare Control
Flare can manifest as ghosting flare or veiling flare (haze). Flare control can often be compromised in a zoom, with flare being one reason to rule out using a lens with some situations.
Shaded means that my hand was held to block direct sunlight from hitting the front lens element.

Exposures were identical. A strong moved the trees and plants between frames, taken a few seconds apart. Several other scenes were shot and similar behavior was seen.
